The Story of Avoca
We were delighted to visit the Avoca store in Suffolk Street this month to learn about a much-loved Irish brand.
Avoca is a deeply rooted Irish brand developed by the Pratt Family from the ground up. From initial beginnings at Avoca Mill founded in 1723 to a network of 12 Stores across Ireland, the brand has experienced exceptional growth under the Pratt family through hard work and innovation.
In January 2016, the brand was acquired by Aramark, a global food services company with a turnover in excess of $15bn. Aramark has ambitious plans to internationalise the brand, while retaining its unique appeal and authenticity. The ‘Story of Avoca’ leans backwards into family traditions but forwards into international growth and expansion.
Our host and speaker, Donal O'Brien is CEO at Aramark Northern Europe. Donal has operational and strategic development responsibility for a business with revenues in excess of €800m and more than 13,000 employees. He played a key role in the acquisition of Avoca in January 2016 and shares the ambition of the Executive Board to take this quintessentially Irish brand to the UK, US and mainland Europe. The opening of the 35,000sq.ft Dunshaughlin Store in April after a €60m investment represents the first phase of Avoca expansion in Ireland.
A drinks reception and finger food rounded off a highly enjoyable evening.
